Netflix has acquired world rights to Nigerian star actress and producer Genevieve Nnaji‘s anticipated movie Lionheart, prior to its premiere at the the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), on Saturday. 


Netflix is making some major moves on the continent after announcing that it had acquired its first-ever film from Nigeria. The streaming giant has acquired the rights to Lionheart, the directorial debut by Nollywood darling Genevieve Nnaji.

Lionheart, stars Nkem Owoh, Pete Edochie, Onyeka Onwenu, Kanayo O. Kanayo, Kalu Ikeagwu, Peter “Mr. P” Okoye and more, and this would be Genevieve’s directorial debut. the 2018 Toronto Film Festival on Saturday. 


Lionheart follows the life of Adaeze, a woman navigating a male-dominated industry while stepping up to run her sick father’s company alongside her eccentric uncle. But problems arise once they discover that the family business is in bad financial shape.


The film stars Nnaji in the lead role, alongside Nkem Owoh, Pete Edochie, and Onyeka Onwenu. Lionheart‘s screenplay was written by Nnaji, Chinny Onwugbenu, Ishaya Bako, Emil Garuba, and C.J. Obasi.
