The Official Twitter Handle of Nigeria's Ruling Party @APCNigeria Now Tweets Bitcoins.

A certain Justin Sun began tweeting bitcoin giveaways using the official handle of the ruling party @APCNigeria. Responding to questions from concerned Nigerians, he claimed to have bought the account which had over 700k followers from Nigeria's President for $2k.

Mr. Phillip On in who was a member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the known handler of the @APCNigeria Twitter account claimed that the account was hacked.

Meanwhile the ruling party about a week ago, had published a disclaimer on Mr.Obin's activities regarding the party's official Twitter handle. This disclaimer is coming long after the party, including the President and Senate President have hobnobbed and associated with same @APCNigeria on #TwitterStreets.

These tweets are generating several questions and conversations on social media about the ruling party and Nigerian politics at large.

A renowned Journalist, Ahmad Salkida has disclosed top information about the #ChibokGirls situation. Today in a series of tweets, he explains his roles as negotiator, how former President Good luck Jonathan  as well as how the  present administration and the Nigerian Army have handled the situation.

Ahmad Salkida reports that most of the #ChibokGirls expected to be in Boko Haram's captivity have now been killed. Most of the girls lost their lives in military bombardments and only 15 of them are still alive and may not return. Read full detail in numbered tweets below.....

He advised the Government to stop the secrecy and bring closure to the #ChibokGirls issue so that their parents and activists will know the real state of things.

Pope Admits ‘Grave Errors’ In Chile Sex Abuse Scandal

Pope Francis admitted Wednesday that he had made “grave mistakes in the assessment and perception of the situation” in Chile after reading the findings of an investigation into sexual abuse committed by the clergy in the country.

Francis said in a letter to Chilean Bishops released by the Vatican that he intends to summon them to Rome to discuss the investigation, which involves Bishop Juan Barros’ alleged cover-ups of abuse by priests in his diocese.

OAU Commences Investigation Of Sex-For-Mark Scandal

The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State has set up a committee to investigate the sex-for-mark scandal allegedly involving a lecturer of the institution.

The scandal became viral when an audio-recording of a phone conversation recently surfaced on social media. The recording had the voice of the lecturer identified as Professor Akindele, whose name was mentioned by the student, sexually harassing a female student.

The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, in a statement on Wednesday said the university has begun the process of identifying the person involved by setting up a committee.

“The recording suggests that the lecturer was demanding sex in return for grade which clearly amounts to sexually harassing the lady.

“Since the matter came to our notice, the University has begun the process of identifying the characters involves in this apparent breach of its regulations, the Code of Conduct for the University Community and the Anti-sexual Harassment policy, in full compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations and procedures of the University.

“To this end, the University has set up a high-powered committee to investigate the allegation and submit its report within one week,” the statement read in part.

Professor Ogunbodede in the statement vowed that the culprits of the scandal, when found, will face the wrath of the law.

“Anyone found culpable will be dealt with decisively. It is totally and morally reprehensible, and the University will never condone such act by any staff or student.

“Once again, I wish to reiterate that no one found culpable of this serious misconduct of sexual harassment will go unpunished,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor said the institution has zero tolerance for sexual harassment and considers sexual harassment as a serious offence contrary to its Code of Conduct for the University Community and the Anti-sexual Harassment policy.

Nigeria's President Buhari Discuss Herdsmen-Farmers Crisis with Archbishop of Canterbury

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday in London, United Kingdom said the herdsmen-farmers crisis in the country is older than his administration.

Responding to question by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Most Reverend Justin Welby on the clashes between herdsmen and farmers in different parts of Nigeria, President Buhari lamented that the crisis has long existed.

“The problem is even older than us. It has always been there but now made worse by the influx of armed gunmen from the Sahel region into different parts of the West African sub-region.

“These gunmen were trained and armed by Muammar Gadaffi of Libya. When he was killed, the gunmen escaped with their arms. We encountered some of them fighting with Boko Haram.

“Herdsmen that we used to know carried only sticks and maybe a cutlass to clear the way, but these ones now carry sophisticated weapons. The problem is not religious, but sociological and economic. But we are working on solutions,” Buhari said.

In a statement which was signed by his special adviser on Media and Publicity, President Buhari also blamed “irresponsible politics” for the crisis.

He said politics has been brought into the farmers/herders’ crisis, but assured that enduring solutions would be found, and justice done to all concerned.

On the schoolgirl from Dapchi, Leah Sharibu who is still being held by insurgents, reportedly because she refused to renounce her Christian faith, the President said the issue is being dealt with quietly.

“We are managing the matter quietly. Making noise would not help. We are collecting as much intelligence as possible, working with the Red Cross and other international organisations. There are too many fraudulent people around, who claim they can do this and that. We won’t deal with them. That was how we got the Dapchi girls back, and the Chibok girls,” he said

Archbishop Welby in response said it was always a delight to see President Buhari. He also gave assurance of support for the President.

“You have my best wishes on your recent decision. I read your declaration speech. We are neutral as a church, but we will pray for you. Great statesmen are those who run for the good of their country. We will be praying for you,” the Archbishop reassured President Buhari.

Multiple music award winner, Innocent Idibia, aka Tuface, is set to swell the ranks of entertainers seeking political offices.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos, the R&B crooner and songwriter said it is about time good people intervened in Nigeria’s politics.

He however, did not reveal under which political platform and at what level he would be seeking to actualise his political aspiration.

Nonetheless, Mr Idibia said he was interested in affecting lives positively and would soon pick up the challenge of a political position.

He also urged youth to get more involved politically.

“Politics affects everything I do. So, I am definitely going to be interested in politics. I will soon participate as a contestant and speak the truth at all times.

“I hope and pray that good men will rise up and make a difference in this country, because we need more patriotic people in all aspects of life,” he said.

Also, Mr Idibia called on Nigerians to come to the aid of victims of the herdsmen and farmers clashes.

“There is so much we’ve been saying about this crisis, but nothing much has come the way of the victims.

“We just need more people to support and join hands to continue extending relief materials to affected people.

“This is the most important thing we can now do; bring succour to the victims,” he said.

The musician said people need to be sensitised on safety precautions during times of crisis.

Mr Idibia appealed to the federal government to do the needful by ensuring permanent solution to the crisis.

“This thing is going on for too long, repeating itself over and over. There has to be a solution, the victims are not goats they are humans and should be taken care of.

“I feel terrible not because it also happened in Benue State, where I hail from, but because it is also happening almost throughout the federation.

“It does not have to happen to someone you know before you speak up about it,” he said.

The campaigners, under the auspices of 21st Century Youth of Niger Delta and Agitators with Conscience, in a statement by the spokesperson, W O I Izon-Ebi, said: “We shall call off our cease fire and opt out of all dialogue process and stop the flow of a single drop of our oil from our land until Nigeria is restructured. 

Our stand may sound like the normal threat, but we will make it a reality. “We want to warn that the days of platitude and deceit are over and if we fail to restructure before the 2019 election, it means we are doomed because the good people of the Niger Delta that have suffered degradation, pollution and exploitation will stop the flow of the product from our region. “We have done it before and can do it again because the oil blocks and exploration facilities are all in our lands and ocean.”

There were strong indications yesterday that highly-priced jewellery valued at £28 million seized from the former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, might be forfeited to the Federal Government. The jewellery were impounded from the home of the former minister when operatives of the anti-graft agency raided her house in Abuja shortly after she lost her position.


A top official of the EFCC confirmed to Vanguard in Abuja that the boxes containing the items were stored in a safe custody with some of the items still bearing their expensive price tags.

 “Maybe we will soon invite Nigerians to come and see what one person acquired or collected as gifts while serving as minister,” the official said  on Tuesday  in Abuja. “We have even brought in dealers and experts from the United Kingdom who have assessed the value of the gold and silver in the boxes we seized from the woman’s homes and they have ascertained that the value is not below £28 million,” the top official said. 

Responding to a question on the list of those who had looted the treasury, being bandied about by both the government and the opposition, the official said that  the  final list of looters would shock Nigerians. “Nigerians have not seen even 10 percent of the looters yet; and when the list comes, it will shock Nigerians,” he said. Meanwhile, the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, Babatunde Fowler, has for the first time admitted that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission assisted it to recover N28 billion from various tax defaulters across the country. “Through the intervention of the EFCC, the agency has been experiencing high level of tax compliance and it is yielding positive results,” Fowler confessed when he met with the Chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu in Abuja  on Tuesday. According to him, “When tax defaulters are reported and invited to your office (EFCC), we see results; we don’t know how you do it, but we are seeing results and people are complying.” He believed that the FIRS alone cannot curtail the activities of tax evaders without the collaboration of other national and international agencies such as the EFCC. 

The FIRS boss emphasized the need to strengthen the existing collaboration and synergy between the two agencies and assured that his organization would explore all means backed by law to ensure that taxes are paid and not diverted. According to him, if taxes are paid, funds would be available for government to provide the infrastructure needed for the socio-economic well-being of the citizenry. Responding, Magu, assured that “the commission is ever ready to partner any agency, organisation or individual in fighting corruption for to move the nation forward.

Nigeria’s men’s table tennis team won silver on Monday, defeated by India.

India triumphed 3-0 in the final of the men’s Table Tennis team event at the 2018 Gold Coast Games on Monday.

Sharath Achanta beat Bode Abiodun 3-1 in the first game despite Abiodun winning the first set 11-4.

Segun Toriola was the next up for the Nigerian team but after taking the first set 12-10, the most experienced campaigner in the team lost his way losing the next three, 11-3, 11-3, and 11-4.

The doubles team of Olajide Omotayo and Abiodun could not stop the onslaught of Harmeet Desai and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, who beat the Nigerian team 11-8, 11-5, and 11-3. India, therefore, took the gold as Nigeria won a silver, the first medal to be won by Team Nigeria in Australia.

Students of Adekunle Ajasin University on Monday blocked roads to protest the increase in the school’s tuition fees announced last week.

The school announced fee raises last week, with students expected to pay 500 per cent higher than previous fees.

The students took their march to the streets on Monday and blocked major roads in Akungba Akoko, Ondo State.

The students union president, Ijanusi Olawale, told PREMIUM TIMES that protests would be held in various states such as Oyo, Osun, Lagos and many others.

“We believe the state is largely occupied by masses with nothing. 500% increment is too much and highly inhumane. The government is autocratic. They should reverse the fees if they don’t want touts littering the streets,” he said.

“The government itself is aware of the economic situation of the country. When did education become a source for generating money? We reject the hike.”

“Let no one deceive you, there’s nobody with the capacity to deliver Nigeria until that day; that day is coming, it’s very near,” he said while addressing the congregation at his Latter Rain Assembly Church in Lagos.

“The reason things are going haywire in Nigeria today is because God is preparing the tender plant from the side of the North,” he said.

Pastor Bakare told his congregation that although he had been speaking about his presidential ambition in parables, they should watch out for direct statements ahead of the 2019 elections.

He maintained that he was not politicking about his ambition to become president but declaring what God has told him about his purpose in life.

“The reason we refused to compromise our lives and to diminish our values is so that nobody can diminish our influence. There’s only one assignment left for me. It’s not down, it’s up.

“I am declaring thus saith the Lord to this end was I born, for this purpose came I into the world that Nigeria will be saved, Nigeria will be changed, and Nigeria will become great in my lifetime. The mouth of the Lord has spoken it and the zeal of the Lord shall accomplish it,” Bakare added.

Ex-president of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva popularly known as Lula has been taken to prison in Curitiba to serve a 12-year sentence for corruption.

Lula who was well rated for his achievements as President was charged and sentenced for corruption. Lula ignored an order to turn himself in by Friday as he was surrounded by thousands of supporters at the metalworkers’ union building in Sao Bernardo do Campo. Though his supporters had resisted his arrest and refused him to turn himself in, the 72 year-old surrendered to authorities on saturday after a stand-off with police.

Lula who was initially found guilty of corruption and money laundering in July 2017 and sentenced In January after an appeals court unanimously upheld the charges against him, has said his prosecution is politically motivated to prevent him from running for presidency during the forthcoming election in october, which he was likely to win.

Mr. da Silva’s appeal to remain free while appeals of the conviction were considered was rejected after the Supreme Federal Court  upheld a 2016 ruling that allows trial judges to jail defendants after an initial appeal has been rejected and issued a warrant to take him into custody.
