Ecobank's MD, Charles Kie resigned last week for undisclosed reasons which may not be unconnected with incessant attempts by the police to arrest. News have it that a recent attempt at the bank headquarters may have triggered his move to quit.
Recall that Mr. Kie through his lawyer, Chief Anthony Idigbe (SAN) had filed a lawsuit last year at a Federal High Court seeking to restrain officials of the Nigerian Police Force from arresting him based on claims that the police had been attempting to force Ecobank to “illegally” transfer $10.5m from a customers to a third party.
N5.5bn Debt: Ecobank Looses Case Against Honeywell at Supreme Court
The Apex Court has dismissed all appeals filed by Ecobank Nigeria Plc in the dispute between the bank and Honeywell Group.
In a unanimous decision by the learned judges on Friday, the Supreme court upheld Appeal Court judgment of march 30, 2018 on the same matter and ruled that Ecobank’s applications lacked merit.
Delivering judgment, the justices of the apex court reprimanded Ecobank’s lawyers for wasting the Court’s time by filing appeals which it described as frivolous and warned Ecobank’s lawyers against filing such applications in future as the Court awarded costs totaling N2,500,000 against Ecobank.
