Nigerian travellers are stranded owing to scarcity of International Passport. The processing which usually takes 5days now takes upto 4months or more.
The Nigerian Immigration Service has not been able to resolve the issue of booklet scarcity over the past months.
Investigations by SaharaReporters also revealed that rather than the N19,000 official price for the 64-page document and N15,000 for the 32-page document, applicants pay as much as N40,000 and N30, 000 respectively to secure the document in any of the passport offices in the country.
Further findings by Pedestriannewsnigeria reveals that the issue is not only about lack of booklet but also passport racketeering by officers of NIS officials who are cashing-out as a result of the scarcity. An NIS officer (names withheld) told our correspondent that it is possible to get passport put within two weeks if the price is right.
